the purpose of this blog

July 19, 2007 · 4 Comments

this is essentially my fifth blog. The first one i had was at blogspot, called nonchalent focus. That was started in October 2004. That didnt last long, and i soon moved to xanga. Xanga survived for about a year, from April 2005-February 2006. After xanga fizzled out, i moved back to blogspot, and started my blog .daviddouglasgoode. which is still running now, and has been for about one and a half years. Then in May this year, along side .daviddouglasgoode. i started another blog at wordpress called much afraid. This is a more personal blog, discussing dreams, friendships and struggles. That is also still running.

So why another blog? abit of an overkill isn’t it really? Well the style of this blog will be much like a journal, talking about the day, reflecitng on stuff, being frank and simple. Im hoping that this blog will be daily, or something close to it. The main focus of this blog will be my twj. Yes, thats right, its an acryonym, being Time.With.Jesus. Each entry will be similiar to one another in that it will discuss my time alone with Him. Hopefully i’ll be able to be transparent enough to discuss my troubles and hardships with it, so that it can be real and tangible. Because i believe that this is important.

If someone asked me what the one bit of advice i would give them concerning their christian faith, it would be this: To spend daily time with him, alone. So this is my journey with that. i hope it to be simple, real and honest. And on the same token, i hope that it would encourage others to persue their journeys as well.

so what with my other two blogs? Well, ill still keep them running. muchafraid will still carry my abstract scribblings, whereas daviddouglasgoode will most likely be focused on music, as its kinda taken that path already. Im not sure how long each post will be on this blog. You’ll probably see me really enthusiastic the first few weeks, then slowly die down, then get motivated again and go through the same process. Nevertheless i will try to make it daily.

I dedicate this blog to a few people. Firstly i dedicate it to my dad. He is the fortress of my household, he loves his wife and his family, and for this i am grateful. He lives his life with integrity and always tries to look to God in every situation. i know that his prayers carry me through everyday.
Secondly, i dedicate it to Donald Miller, if that is remotely possible haha. Ive read all his four books twice, and going through them all again over the last few months has really had a significant impact on my life. This year i have really found myself, and i believe his words have been a catalyst to that.
Thirdly and lastly, i dedicate this blog to my life coach Pete. Sitting down at a local cafe with a hot chocolate in one hand, i talk through the pressing issues of my life, with Pete on the other side of the table listening intently. His encouragement, ideas and genuine care are priceless. This blog i believe is an outworking of our time together.

well there we have it. I know that this is the same layout for my muchafraid blog. its the only one i like. i’ll change it soon.
blessings

May the “nutty shell” be ever-expanding, may you find the wonder of God in even the mundanity of walking your dog and washing your sox, may this blog chronicle the good fight.

Dave, your willingness to open up your heart for twj & share it with others is an inspiration. I know that you are growing into the man of faith and courage we saw when you were little.

    Always remember:

“Treat people as if they were what they ought to be, and you help them to become what they are capable of being.”
